The Martini has been around since the late 1800s, and it is a traditionally gin-based cocktail. The Dirty Martini is a variation favored among many that can have a gin or vodka base. Made with olive brine instead of orange bitters to give it the most recognizable salty and herbal taste that earns it its “dirty” moniker. Even though you can find countless variations — Reverse, Smoky, 50/50, etc. — there’s not a Martini recipe that’s quite as popular as the Dirty Martini.
