Hanky Panky Cocktail Gin Sweet Vermouth Fernet Branca Amaro

The Hanky Panky was created by Ada Coleman (know as “Coley”), head bartender at the Savoy Hotel, in London. She began working at the American Bar in 1903 and created this cocktail for one of her regular patrons the actor, Sir Charles Hawtrey. When Hawtrey first tasted the drink he exclaimed “By Jove! That’s the real hanky-panky.” and it has been called that ever since.

The Hanky Panky calls for gin, sweet vermouth, and Coley’s secret ingredient, the bitter Italian amaro, Fernet Branca.
