There is no verified origin of the Illegal Cocktail and there’s nothing particularly illicit about it. What we do know is that it is a fairly new cocktail that’s been officially added to the IBA (International Bartender’s Association) list of standardized cocktails. However, it is under the radar as far as modern cocktails go.
It is a boozy mezcal-based drink that combines rum, lime juice, maraschino liqueur, and a few other ingredients. The Illegal is reminiscent of a Hemingway Daiquiri but the flavor is complex, smoky and citrus. It is typically served up but can also be enjoyed on the rocks.

MARASCHINO LIQUEUR

LIME JUICE, Fresh is best
.5 oz
SIMPLE SYRUP
