Mulled Cider is a traditional British beverage, similar to Wassail, served autumn through New Year’s Eve. Mulled Spiked Cider adds rum and heats it and apple cider just shy of boiling with orange slices and mulling spices, such as cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. The term cider in the United States refers to an unsweetened, unfiltered apple juice and is different than the alcoholic “hard” cider, which is from the fermented juice of apples, that is a common beverage in the UK and is used in Wassail.
This “spiked” recipe adds dark rum to an otherwise non-alcoholic Muller Cider recipe.
