Mulled Cider is a traditional British beverage, similar to Wassail, served autumn through New Year’s Eve. Mulled Spiked Cider adds rum and heats it as well as apple cider just shy of boiling with orange slices and mulling spices, such as cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. The term cider in the United States refers to an unsweetened, unfiltered apple juice and is different from the alcoholic “hard” cider, which is from the fermented juice of apples, which is also a common beverage in the UK and can be used in Wassail.
This spiked cider recipe adds dark rum to an otherwise non-alcoholic Muller Cider recipe.
