The Prairie Buzz is a rich and delicious cocktail that’s sure to perk you up. It’s an ideal night cap for the caffeine inclined, with its sweet undertones and strong character. Created at The Bennett in New York City, now shuttered, it begins with Rieger’s Kansas City Whiskey.
Building off of its whiskey base, the Prairie Buzz combines half an ounce of cold-brew coffee, richly sweet amaretto—an almond liqueur—plus a splash of cinnamon syrup, and sweet vermouth. These ingredients create a complex mixture which is ultimately softened by the addition of heavy cream. As the name implies, the imbiber should prepare themselves for a hefty buzz, not from the booze but rather from the cold brew. We suggest opting for a decaffeinated cold-brew if you’re looking to turn the light anytime soon.
