This two-ingredient drink took on many forms before solidifying its name as the Rusty Nail. Previously know by other names such as the D&S, Little Club #1, Knucklehead, and Mig-21. The drink combines Drambuie, a Scotch-liqueur, and Scotch.
In 1963 a spokes person from Drambuie gave their endorsement of the Rusty Nail in The New York Times, this announcement officially cemented the name. It is rumored that the drink was a favorite of the Rat Pack and this contributed to the drinks popularity at the time. It joins the family of other duo (spirit plus a liqueur) drinks like the Stinger and the French Connection.
