Sex on the Beach

Sex On The Beach Vodka Cranberry Juice Orange Juice Peach Shnapps Tropical Iced Cocktail

The origin of this licentiously named cocktail is hazy, but the common story begins in 1987 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The Sex on the Beach was created by Ted Pizio, a bartender at Confetti’s Bar, in an effort to win a contest put on by National Distribution to promote their new product, peach schnapps.

The contest’s objective was to award the bar and the bartender that sold the most product. Pizio rose to this challenge and came up with a concoction combining peach schnapps with vodka, cranberry juice, and orange juice. When it came to naming the drink, he took inspiration from the spring break revelers and called it “Sex on the Beach.” The drink was an immediate success and not only is easy to make but a striking-looking cocktail, similar to the “sunrise effect” of the Tequila Sunrise.
