Irish Old Fashioned

Irish Old Fashioned With Irish Whiskey Benedictine Angostura Bitters And Orange Bitters

This Old Fashioned crafted by bartender Jack McGarry brings a taste of Ireland to the world of spirits with Irish whiskey. Specifically, McGarry opts for Jameson Black Barrel Irish Whiskey, which stands apart from the standard Jameson bottle commonly found in bars and lounges. Aged for 12 years in ex bourbon and sherry barrels, the Black Barrel offers a rich and nuanced flavor profile. As Irish whiskey already carries a touch of sweetness compared to most bourbons, this cocktail requires only a modest amount of sweetener. Instead of the traditional simple syrup, Benedictine, an herbal liqueur, is used in this recipe. The addition of Benedictine not only adds sweetness but also introduces a botanical complexity that is further enhanced by the inclusion of Angostura and orange bitters.
