This twist on the classic Margarita updates the traditional formula with a float of red wine. The Devil’s Margarita mixes blanco tequila with fresh lime juice, and simple syrup, topped with red wine, ideally a fruity medium-bodied one such as cabernet franc. It is reminiscent of the pre-Prohibition New York Sour with its red wine float, which is a Whiskey Sour topped with red wine.
To achieve the “float” pour the red wine slowly over the back of a bar spoon.

BLANCO TEQUILA
1 oz
LIME JUICE
.75 oz
SIMPLE SYRUP
.5 oz
RED WINE, fruity medium bodied wine such as merlot or cab franc
