Recognized as the national drink of Brazil, it is made with cachaça, sugar, and lime. While the Caipirinha’s exact origins are unknown it is believe to have been invented by landowning farmers in the state of São Paulo during the 19th century. Its name come from the Brazilian Portuguese word caipira, a term that referred to some one from the countryside. The drink is very similar to the cuban Daiquiri and the french mediterranean Ti’ Punch.
