Simon Difford, a renowned mixologist based in London, England, crafted the Dublin Minstrel, a variation of the classic Last Word cocktail in 2015. This delightful twist on the original recipe swaps gin for Irish whiskey, lending a unique flavor profile. Difford aptly named this creation after Frank Fogarty, an illustrious vaudeville performer known as The Dublin Minstrel. Interestingly, Fogarty is mentioned in Ted Saucier’s 1951 book “Bottoms Up!” as the individual who introduced the Last Word to the Detroit Athletic Club around 1920. As such, it is plausible that Fogarty himself inspired the cocktail’s original moniker.
